Large oil on canvas formal portrait shows a seated middle aged woman holding pink roses in her lap, wearing a light blue gown with shawl. She wears a large ring and wedding band and diamond studded haircomb. Background is a rural landscape reminiscence of a Maine scene. this portrait purportedly painted by De Amengiel, who was also known to have painted a portrait of the Empress of China. According to the information provided by the estate Posy’s father was a sea captain in the China trade in the late 1800’s. The Crosby family has been prominent in Maine since the 19th Century, including William George Crosby who was Governor of Maine from 1853 through 1854. Unsigned.
