TWO FRENCH PROVINCIAL CARVED BEACH ARMCHAIRS.

18th century, France. The first example in the style of Louis XV. A rectangular over-upholstered back joined to horizontal arms continuing to shaped grips on curved supports centering trapezoidal seat with serpentine front rail and shaped and scalloped edge, raised on cabriole legs terminating in molded snail’s feet, joined by undulating curule formed stretchers. Covered in Kilim fabric with rows of geometric designs. Second armchair with rectangular arched back joined to elongated padded arms with shaped handgrips on conforming supports centering the trapezoidal over-upholstered seat, raised on “OS DU MOUTON” legs joined by curule formed cross stretchers. Covered in the same fabric as previous. Note: While each chair frame is of pinned and tenoned construction, and originated in the 18th century, we do not feel we can positively date them to the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV. SIZE: First 42-1/2″ h at back x 16-1/2″ h of seat x 28-1/2″ w overall. 2) 39-1/2″ h at back x 17″ h of seat x 27″ w overall. CONDITION: The first example with repaired proper left front foot. The second example with restored stretchers, now reinforced. Fabric on each chair with substantial running of colors. Both chair frames with evidence of old insect activity, now dormant. 51437-38 (800-1,200) – Lot 2219
