GROUP OF EARLY TEXTILES AND EMBROIDERIES.

18th and 19th century, Europe. 1) A pair of Flemish tapestry fragments now assembled as two pillows, the first a 12″ x 16″ panel embroidered with the bust of a woman in period dress amongst flowering shrubs. The second a 15″ x 22″ panel of dense foliage. Each panel believed to be 18th century or earlier with extensive wear and deterioration, but retaining a pleasing overall effect. 2) Three small pillow casings (one filled) all approximately 8″ x 9-1/2″. Each embroidered with a similar classical urn on table with trailing drapery and a flowering branch. Nicely wrought example, retaining good detail and color but with deterioration and small repairs throughout. 3) Pair of small stump work embroidered floral panels, each approximately 9″ square, with three rows of silvered flowers on a now olive green ground, the central row within a border of pink and green stylized flower head garland. Overall deterioration, silver thread mostly intact, fair condition overall. 4) Gothic needlework panel of a woman in period formal dress standing beneath a Gothic arch within scrolling borders on a black ground, 18th century or earlier, panel is 15″ x 13″. Fragment in generally fair condition, intact but with wear throughout. 5) Early needlepoint seat cover, possibly France, 16″ x 18″. Romantic view of a young couple seated within a glade of flowering trees all within a scrolling cartouche, further bordered with floral trellis work. Probably late 18th century. Color palette remains reasonably strong with deterioration along edges and with several small holes in woman’s dress and gentleman’s clothing. Fair overall. 6) Early framed needlework of Madonna and child wrought in earth tones very subtle palette, sight size 12″ x 7-1/2″, late 18th early 19th century, continental. Overall fading. Needlework appears reasonably intact, colors on reverse are quite vibrant. 7) Group of four silk floral embroideries, all backed and with contrasting silk borders of later vintage. 19th century. The group includes a polychrome floral table runner, 49″ x 21″, with serious deterioration throughout and general soiling. A green floral slip cover with silvered thread border, 17″ x 11″, slight even soiling, otherwise fair to good. The third an ivory silk floral embroidered doily, faded with staining, deterioration to border, 11″ x 9″. A rectangular floral doily with silvered thread border. Silk is tearing and brittle, 15″ x 8″. 8) Along with a large grouping of later embroideries together with two crewel and stump work foliate panels, dating to the late 18th early 19th century. A floral crewel work panel on burlap, 20th century. A large embroidered piece of material, possibly destined as a quilt or duvet cover, nicely embroidered with floral sprigs, birds, butterflies and floral sprays. 19th/20th century.
