MAJORELLE ART NOUVEAU MARQUETRY DESK.

Circa 1905, Louis Majorelle, France. This fine example signed “L. Majorelle” at corner of the top within a leaf. The rectangular tray top with swelled sides with marquetry vinery of varying exotic hardwoods forming the border. The top projecting above the molded frieze fitted with a single drawer raised on carved molded tapering legs headed by flower heads and tapering to a pointed foot. Note: An identical example is illustrated in Louis Majorelle Master of Art Nouveau Design by Alastair Duncan, published 1991, see page 204, figs. 131-133. SIZE: 30″ h x 35″ l x 25-1/2″ w. CONDITION: Table retains original cleaned French polished surfaces. Top with minor and minimal indentations. Otherwise very good. 50429-92 (5,000-7,000) – Lot 2206
