LEROLLES FRERES BRASS CARTEL CLOCK.

First half 20th century, France. The brass case cast with foliate floral sprays and scrolling molded leaf tips. The crest cast with intertwined berry sprigs and leaf tips above the convex glass door opening to the brass dial decorated with a central foliate armorial crest inset with two enameled plaques inscribed “LEROLLE FRERES”. The second plaque “PARIS”, beneath time and strike apertures. The chapter ring with enameled plaques for each Roman numeral hour. The case additionally mounted with shaped clear glass panels within the brass case openings. The eight day brass movement, a rack and snail striking system, striking on a bell the half hour and hour, with dead beat escapement. The original pendulum a cast brass example depicting the sun god Louis XIV. SIZE: 28-1/2″ t x 16-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: From a private Mount Desert Island collection.
