BAROQUE CARVED OAK COFFER.

18th century, probably England. The rectangular hinged lid with applied molded edge opening to a storage well. The eight panel case with four carved front panels all with foliate carving within molded borders. The inset side panels recessed and un-carved with molded borders, the case of quarter sawn oak. SIZE: 28-1/2″ h x 56″ l x 21″ d. CONDITION: The lid of the coffer is a considerably later replacement, proper right rear side later replacement, lock, key and hasp original, original lid hinges removed, case surfaces with exception of lid with natural undisturbed patina, legs appear to retain nearly full height, proper left font leg pieced. 51437-37 (500-600) – Lot 2183
