MONTAGUE J DAWSON (British, 1890-1973) “THE CHARIOT OF FAME, STUNSAILS PULLING.”.

Outstanding oil on canvas nautical scene shows a large ship in full sail sailing through rough seas under blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower left “Montague Dawson”, housed in a black painted molded wood frame with gold edge in a Lucite shadow box. A gilt title and artist plaque affixed to frame. On verso are various Christie’s labels, also a label from the LAX- Admiral’s Club with title and artist indicating “Property of American Airlines”, also an export label and penciled title on stretcher. Also on verso of canvas is a London Canvas stamp. SIZE: 28″ x 42″. Overall 33″ x 47. PROVENANCE: Christie’s NY Sale 1798 (1/31/07) Lot 348. From a Maine/Texas estate being sold unreserved.
