FRENCH BRONZE MOUNTED BOULLE SHELF CLOCK BY LOUIS MYNUEL (French, 1675-1742).

Mid-18th century. This large finely detailed mantel clock has a time & strike movement marked “Mynuel a Paris”. The clock sits atop a similarly decorated & bronze mounted conforming plinth, with delicately cast gilt bronze feet. The clock case mounted with ormolu feet & mounts, and cartouche having a gilt bronze bas relief overlay of mythological scene with a Centaur abducting Deianeira, having boulle decoration allover including interior. The dial being cast bronze with porcelain Roman numerals, the case capped with removable plinth also decorated with ormolu mounts, having a finial of a winged trumpeting angel. SIZE: Overall: 45-1/2″ h x 22″ w x 9″ d. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Anthony M. Kurland Jr of Maine. Archaeologist with degree from Yale and PhD from Harvard. Purchased from Dare Antiques, Amsterdam, 11/25/2001. CONDITION: Appears to be all original with possible exception of screws & attachments, angel finial reset & reattached, minor damage to boulle, and normal drying cracks. 9-93121 (3,000-5,000) – Lot 2180
