FABULOUS MEMORIAL PAINTING TO CAPTAIN WILLIAM EUGENE HAYWARD.

A wonderful tribute painting in the form of a Coat of Arms which displays the extraordinary service and awards of Captain Hayward. The center shield chronicles his military life from February 3, 1862 to his mustering out with honorable service November 7, 1865. The four quadrants of the shield depict different phases of his military career including Battery I-2nd Illinois and 2nd US Volunteers. Surrounding the shield is a gold foliate border with well rendered bald eagle with shield and banner atop and scrolling banner below with his name and rank. Below are hung four medals that he was awarded in service. Unsigned, possibly executed by a sign painter or someone with great skill at calligraphy. Housed in a modern Larson Juhl frame.
