$2,420.00

AMBITIOUS INLAID MAHOGANY HEPPLEWHITE CARD TABLE.

Circa 1790, Massachusetts. A rare and successful form with the outset front legs with corner notching to top. The inlay design with birch plume ellipse flanked by birdseye maple rectangles on the front leg tops and sides is very pleasing. The overleaf edge is inlaid with a composed thumb print design. The shaping, inlays, and wood choice make this a particularly appealing example. SIZE: 30″ h x 36-3/4″ w x 17-1/2″ d (closed). CONDITION: Underside shows some new blocking and repairs to age crack in lower board of top, repairs adjacent to hinges, stabilization of secondary wood at front of skirt and several screw attachment methods in securing the top to the frame, some repair to proper left front foot at bottom of taper where it meets the floor. With great color and older refinish, some restoration to inlay at cuffs. Cosmetically good and presently stable. 51348-11 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 2162
