PARTIAL SCRAPBOOK OF AUTOGRAPHED LETTERS. Complete with signatures of Roscoe Conkling, ALS on The Ebening Post stationary of William Cullen Bryant on a 5″ x 7″ letterhead of the Ebening Post, Sept. 29th 1863 signed “W. C. Bryant & Co”. 1860 ALS of the Mayor of San Francisco; Secretarial Presidential land grant for Franklin Pierce; ANS of Charles Sumner (repaired crack through “C” in Charles), signature is dark yet paper is laid & glued in place with staining and acid burn; ANS of Edward Everett Secretarial letter by Joseph Hooker, Civil War General; Hannibal Hamlin ALS dated August 19, 1861 – glued into album with staining; LS signed by Civil War General Oliver O. Howard from Lookout Mtn. Jan 14th, 1864 with great content in this 4-page letter where Howard tells friend “never to call General Grant “Drunkin’ Grant” as he is about the only big General that don’t drink at all. He don’t swear and isn’t afraid of bullets” – glued in album on edge, soiled, cracked at two folds; ALS Ulysses S. Grant December 16, 1867 2-pages signed “US Grant General” glued in album with foxing and acid burn; ALS Attlebird Ames from Fort Fisher Feb. 9th, 1865 – Letter is broken in half through “A” in signature. Rutherford B. Hays 2-page ALS Sept. 23, 1876 referring to soldier in his Civil War unit, the 23rd Ohio – Glued at edges, cracked at fold, staining; Album includes several other politicians.
