EXTREMELY RARE SET OF SIX CROOK’D BACK SPANISH FOOT MAHOGANY CHAIRS.

Second quarter 18th century, Boston, Massachusetts. The molded arched crestrail with inset corners joined to the rear posts centering a two-splat back with oxblood leather upholstered covering above the trapezoidal leather covered seat raised on frontal vase ring and block-turned frontal legs terminating in carved Spanish feet, the rear legs backswept. All joined by a box stretcher, the front stretchers with elongated vase, ring and reel turnings, the side stretchers of swelled form. Rear stretchers of rectangular form. Leather covering affixed with oversized brass tacks. SIZE: 44-1/2″ h of back x 18″ h of seat x 18″ w of seat. PROVENANCE: From the long-time collection of Gideon and Jean LaCroix of Arlington, Vermont. CONDITION: Early if not original dark varnish. One brass tack absent. Minor professional in-use repairs to each chair. Secondary underside seat bracing has been added. Otherwise good. 51331-42 (5,000-10,000) – Lot 2133
