SN 6116. Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Dovetailed Krupp steel bbls fitted with slightly raised, concave, matted rib marked with grade and steel type in milled out section, are engraved with makers name and “Suhl Germany” on tops of bbls. Lightly colored case hardened side-plated boxlock action features automatic safety (SAFE engraved), pin type cocking indicators, square crossbolt and dolls head third fastener, side clips, reinforcing bolsters, and double triggers. Action is engraved with scrolling germanic acanthus with beaded background. Fences are deep relief carved, and have exceptionally well executed open acanthus scroll with a fine shaded background. Sideplates are near fully engraved with very well rendered portraits of game and dogs with a hound retrieving a dead rabbit on left lockplate, with another pair of bunnies escaping. Right lockplate depicts a nye of standing and strutting pheasant in open meadow. Broad striped European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over horn basket-weave buttplate, and features well cut closely spaced fancy bordered checkering, drop points, and a vacant silver oval on toe line. Long splinter ejector forend has inset schnabeled horn tip and Deeley type release. Bore diameter: left -.741, right -.738. Bore restrictions: left -.028 (Imp mod), right -.020 (Lt Mod). Bbls retain over 90% orig blue with some light marks and scratches. Action retains most of its originally light case hardening color, nicely silvered from hand wear, giving dramatic enhancement to fine engraving and carving. Stocks retain nearly all of what appears to be their orig hand rubbed oil finish, with open grain, checkering slightly worn and soiled. Horn of buttplate shows some slight insect damage. Bores are excellent, with one or two minor light dings and slight bulges behind chokes. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Right ejector is “live”. A fine quality snappy gun. 48990-1 MGM2 (4,500-7,500) – Lot 2132
