TEKKE BOKHARA ORIENTAL RUG, NORTHEAST PERSIAN.

Early 20th century. Three rows of nine Turkoman guls on a brick red ground within a main border of ivory and blue/black star guls within multiple candy cane and tarantula devices. SIZE: 3′ 6″ x 4′ 6″. PROVENANCE: Downeast Maine home, descendant of Knud Rasmussen, famous Danish arctic explorer whose “greatest achievement” was the massive Fifth Thule Expedition (1921–1924) being sold unreserved. CONDITION: General even wear, area of wear showing foundation in one quadrant together with a line of foundation showing at mid point of rug. Colors remain strong and vibrant, some losses to end fringe and conforming guard borders, otherwise good. 51323-13 (500-700) – Lot 2125
