LARGE “NELSON” RUNNING HORSE WEATHERVANE.

Early 20th century. Probably by Washburne or by J.L. Mott, New York. Featuring a very well modeled horse weathervane with finely molded cast zinc head and hollow copper full body. Having well detailed mane and tail. A similar example manufactured by the J.L. Mott Company, New York City. Ref: p 13 of the 1892 J.L. Mott catalog. “Nelson” was a nationally famous record setting “trotter” of the 1890’s. SIZE: 31″ x 44″t. CONDITION: Minor seam separation at the top of the tail, old in-use solder repairs along spine, seam separation on back leg, slight seam separation on front leg, overall very good condition with weathered surface, with traces of original gilding. 9-96217 (6,000-8,000) – Lot 2112
