ANTIQUE HERIZ CARPET, NORTH PERSIA.

Late 19th/early 20th century. The central arabesque medallion with stepped and crenelated borders in midnight blue centering an ivory medallion with saz leaf borders on a madder red field with geometric leaf and floral design within asymmetrical blue/gray spandrels with stylized floral and Phoenix designs. The pale blue main border with bold florettes alternating with saz leaf design. SIZE: 11′ 9″ x 14′ 9″. PROVENANCE: Maralyn Young estate, Arundel/Falmouth Maine, being sold unreserved. CONDITION: The rug with wear to foundation overall but retaining good color and clear design. There is a hole approximately 2″ in diameter at one end of rug at serrated end edge of medallion. Foundation wear most notable in opposing end of medallion along majority of width in field. Fringe loss at both ends of rug. Light to moderate soiling throughout. This carpet retains very good potential for restoration and remains reasonably supple. 51412-73 (600-900) – Lot 2108
