CHIPPENDALE BOLD REVERSE SERPENTINE CHEST OF DRAWERS.

Massachusetts possibly Newburyport, circa 1770 – 1785. With particularly bold claw and ball feet, well scrolled knee returns and fan carved drop pendant at center. A superior compact Chippendale chest with deeply shaped and well graduated drawers. The generous molded overhung top and exceptional carved Chippendale base make this an appealing example. Birch with white pine secondary woods. SIZE: 33-1/2″ h x 36″ w x 18-5/8″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Maine/Texas estate being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Generally good, retains some of its original mahoganized red finish, one side knee block missing and one replaced proper left side. Brasses appropriate replacements.
