CARVED AND PAINTED SHIP’S FIGUREHEAD “LORD NELSON”.

White pine, late 19th to early 20th century. Well carved full-body three dimensional figure of Lord Nelson in full regalia with outstretched hand and pinned sleeve, sitting atop a carved scroll and carved rope bundle. After this figure was retired as a ship’s figurehead, it was used as a trade figure in a ship store in the 20s and 30s. Found in Norfolk, Virginia. Mounted on early pine block with original forged iron hardware. SIZE: 70″ tall PROVENANCE: From ship’s store. Found in Norfolk, VA. CONDITION: Overall very good, with normal losses and wear commensurate with age; an old glue repair to arm. 9-93480 (4,000-6,000) – Lot 2022
