ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAMSHIP “APACHE”.

Oil on canvas portrait shows the single stack, two-mast, black-hulled ship sailing right to left. Flying American flag off stern and ships pennant and company flag of masts. All seen under a light blue and cloud sky. The name emblazoned on the bow and upper deck. The Apache was built by William Cramp & Sons of Philadelphia, PA. The owner was the Clyde Steamship Company and its home port was New York. Note: Probably No. 33 on p. 33 of Antionio Jacobsen “The Checklist”. Housed in a partial gilt wood frame. Signed lower right “Antonio Jacobsen 1905″. SIZE: 22″ x 36″. Overall: 25″ x 39”. CONDITION: Surface dirt, light craquelure. Otherwise very good. 9-29098 (4,000-6,000) – Lot 2021
