VERY FINE LONDON STERLING SALVER BY WILLIAM PEASTON (1752). A fine, heavy salver by this noted silversmith, has classic scrolled border, cast and applied, featuring heavy scrolled acanthus flourishes. Central armorial depicts a crane with a fleur-di-lis held aloft by one foot, surmounting central oval badge, surrounded by scroll and floral border. Salver is raised on three lions paw feet. Bottom is stamped with hallmarks “WP” within a heart (William Peaston), London, sterling, and date letter for 1752 (“r” within shaped shield). SIZE: 12-1/2″ diameter. 101.2″ high. 34 oz. 5.4 dwt. PROVENANCE: From a fine Kentucky Estate. CONDITION: Very fine. Excellent patina. Light scratches. Armorial is slightly rubbed. Deep hallmarks are clear. 9-92282 (1,000-2,000)
