ANTONIO DE SIMONE (Italian, 1851-1907) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAM YACHT “LADY TORFRIDA”.

Gouache shows a white hulled steam yacht with half sails up on three masts with center stack and 11 figures on deck flying NY yacht club burgee sailing left to right. Housed in a modern gilt frame with double mattes, signed lower right “De Simone” & identified lower left. The owner was Bainard Brown. REFERENCE: The ship was built in 1888 by Fairfield SB & ENG Co. Various owners including the British Navy in WWII; two other names during its lifetime “Star of India” and “Valfreyia.” SIZE: Sight: 16-3/4″ x 25-3/4″.
