WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 3RD MODEL LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

SN 37415. Cal 44 RF Henry. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, full magazine, thinned half-nickel front sight & Henry style 900-yard ladder rear sight with orig base and a reproduction staff. Mounted with uncheckered straight grain American walnut with straight stock and crescent brass buttplate with trap. Buttstock has last 4-digits of matching SN in top tang channel and inside toe of buttplate. Buttstock & forend cap have factory sling swivels. This rifle was produced in about 1870. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains a mottled plummy brown patina with some scattered surface etching. Magazine tube retains about 90% orig blue turning plum with a few scattered spots of pin-prick rust. Receiver shows light to moderate sharp edge wear with a couple of small scratches and retains a even medium mustard patina. Top tang has several small peen marks. Stock is missing a sliver by the top tang otherwise wood is sound with the buttstock showing a very old restored finish and the forearm a hand-worn patina. Mechanics are fine, strong sharp bore with good shine and scattered pitting. 51379-26 JRL (4,000-7,000) – Lot 2004
