WORLD WAR I AMERICAN NAVAL AVIATOR’S UNIFORMS AND ACCESSORIES OF ENSIGN CHARLES A. PURINTON, NAVAL AVIATOR #1297. 1) Green Naval Aviator’s tunic and trousers. Ensign’s shoulder boards; no wings, but evidence of their attachment. Tailor label in trousers marked “The John White Store, Pensacola, Florida and C.A. Purinton November 1918.” – Excellent condition with no mothing. 2) One blue U.S. Navy Officer’s undress tunic and pants. Mohair trim, hidden button front, silver bullion anchors on collar, Ensign sleeve rank. No evidence of wings being worn on this tunic. Trousers marked as above but dated Oct. 1918. – Excellent condition with no mothing. 3) One blue U.S. Navy enlisted man’s Pea Coat. Ten large anchor buttons. – Fine condition with one minor seam separation. 4) One U.S. Naval enlisted man’s blue “Flat Hat”; ribbon legend “U.S. Naval Reserve Force” stencil named to C.A. Purinton on cap lining. – Needs reshaping but otherwise in fine condition. 5) One U.S. Naval officer’s visor cap with three interchangeable covers, aviation green, whit and blue. – Storage marks on the cap’s visor. Missing gold braid chinstrap and one attaching button. Cap needs blocking. Good condition. 6) Lot of insignia and buttons. Three Ensign shoulder boards. Buttons incl. 6 large U.S.N.R.; 8 U.S.N. large officer’s; 2 small U.S.N.R.; 1 small U.S.N. officer’s; 1 small U.S. Life Saving Service; one pair earrings made from small officer’s buttons; one gold bullion cap chinstrap with U.S.N.R. attaching button. 7) Lot of 2 cotton neck protectors worn with high collar uniforms; 2 chamois-covered pads – 1 envelope of jewelers rouge powder, for polishing the buttons. 4-47509 (1,250-1,500)
