AWESOME 25MM MANVILLE MANUFACTURED GAS GUN WITH LUGGAGE CASE.

SN 33322. Cal. 25MM. Made of aircraft aluminum with 2-pc hard rubber “Manville” monogram plastic pistol grips. 18-shot, 25MM rotary gas gun, the precursor to the Striker shotgun of Hollywood fame. Introduced in 1935 from their corporate offices in Pontiac, MI, the guns were manufactured 12ga, 25MM and 37MM. Steel inserts were available to convert to larger 25MM to fire the more readily available 12ga buckshot loads. However, this was later deemed illegal and unlawful under the Public Safety Act of 1934. This company ceased to exist in an extraordinary series of incidents when in 1933 when Charles J. Manville ordered all drawings, remaining weapons, parts, jigs and tooling to be destroyed for some unknown reason. With fitted luggage case and display stand. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine with bright polished aluminum, having survived very well. Grips are excellent, bore and mechanics are very fine. There is a slight amount of corrosion in protected areas, however it does not affect its operation. Gun is case in what appears to be its orig luggage case and has a small amount of documentation such as instruction manual and brief history of the corporation and manufacture housed inside said casing. An absolutely awesome item. 51720-3 TDW (3,000-4,000) – Lot 1677
