CONFEDERATE ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD AND SCABBARD. A wonderful example of a Confederate manufactured, unmarked short artillery sword and scabbard. The pattern is similar to the U.S. Model 1833 with a cast brass hilt, unmarked, with a plain crossguard and cast grip with narrow rings. Blade, 19″ long is elliptical in cross section, without fullers and retains its leather washer at the ricasso. The crude scabbard is fashioned of wood, painted black with a tin throat and brass frog button. The drag is also of tin with a lead finial at the bottom. A classic example of a Confederate manufactured short sword with a spectacular scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Hilt of the sword has a dark untouched patina. Blade is also untouched having a light gray patina overall with dark areas at the ricasso and tip. Scabbard is in wonderful condition. 4-47567 CW (2,800-3,200)
