MID-19TH CENTURY SIDE KNIFE AND SCABBARD. A high quality iron mounted side knife of unknown origin from the mid-19th century (1840-70). Spear pointed blade measuring 9-3/4″ diamond shaped in cross section. Counter guard is iron with whale tail ends surmounted by a 1″ high iron ferrule. Grip is of walnut with co-centric rings having a copper capstan. Scabbard is of brown leather stamped twice with a “thistle” figure (Scotland) with a brass throat and tip. Scabbard may not be original to the knife. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade is bright with only light staining here and there, hilt and grip are slightly loose, scabbard fine. 4-47574 CW (800-1,000)
