VERY RARE REID CALIBER 41 KNUCKLEDUSTER.

SN 6258. Cal. 41 RF. Nickel finish over bronze frame with 2″ unfluted cylinder that has 5 chambers. Top-strap has the 2-line manufacturers name & patent information. This gun with a trap-door style frame, not a standard style frame is engraved with light foliate arabesque patterns and a checkered thumbprint on the backstrap. According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique Firearms only about 150 of these rare pocket pistols were ever produced 1870-1872. Very few are known today. According to Taylor Bowen’s Book “James Reid and his Catskill Knuckledusters”, there are only 16 of these .41 calibers known to exist. PROVENANCE: The Carmen Gianforte Collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Frame overall retains about 40% orig nickel with the exposed brass a dark brown brass patina. Cyl retains about 65-70% orig nickel with some battering on the front face from the safety. Mechanics are fine.
