SN 211550E. Cal. 16 ga. Bbl set #1)26″ 2-3/4″ chambers with full length matted top rib and brass front bead marked on right bbl “Sir Joseph Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel and marked on left “Made to Order by the Hunter Arms Co Fulton N.Y.”. Top rib with small gold bar and scroll engraved at extension 1″ wedge of scroll engraving. Bbl set #2) 26″ 16 ga. 2-1/2″ chambers and marked as bbl set #2 on forearm lug, otherwise identical to #1. Hunter One SST, automatic ejectors, non-automatic safety. Water table with SN on right, pattern dates on left and jeweled bbl flats with SN on left tube. Both sets of bbls with Whitworth trademark stamp on bottom and grade designation and bbl # on forearm lug. Round knob full pistol grip buttstock of fabulous lightly colored European walnut checkered in fleur-de-lis pattern around grip. Ball grip with panel and wave pattern extending towards comb. Orig lined HRBP. Both splinter forearms are near fully checkered in fleur-de-lis pattern with banjo rounded roll-type release and triangular ebony tips. Receiver is fabulously engraved. Lockplates in full A-2 4th variation floral & scroll engraving and marked in gold “L.C. Smith”. Front of receiver with small game scene, pointer on right, setter on left. Bottom of receiver nicely scroll engraved as is trigger guard bow and tang with SN in banner. Beaded fences are nicely sculpted in floral pattern and top of frame, top lever and top tang with well executed bursts of floral scroll. Back of top tang with “S” in gold for safety. Housed in a full leather 2 bbl set case with green felt lining and unengraved brass shield on top. Included in the case is a cleaning rod and a nickel plated oil bottle. Bbl set #1 .652 (both bbls). Bore restrictions: left – .011 (mod), right – .010 (mod). Minimum wall thickness: left – .040, right – .041 . Weight: 6 lbs. 10 oz. Drop at comb: 1-11/16″, drop at heel: 2-5/8″. LOP: 13-15/16″. Bbl Set #2) Bore diameter: left – .652, right – .652. Bore restrictions: left – .010 (mod), right – .005 (imp/cyl). Minimum wall thickness: left – .037, right – .033 . Weight: 6 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine and investment quality. Bbl set #1 retains 98% of an old restored blued finish. Bbl set #2 retains 98% of its orig toned blued finish. Engraving is sharp. Buttstock is superb and orig, checkering appears to have been chased many years ago with some added finish to butt for preservation. Forearms are excellent and orig and retain most of their orig finish, checkering is sharp. Receiver is very fine retaining most of its orig case hardened finish, overall in the 80-85% range, toned near lug vivid and elsewhere though hidden by deep cut engraving. Trigger guard is excellent and retains approximately 60% of its orig high polish blue, toned at tang rich and dark at bow. Screws are excellent and this gun has seen relatively little use. Bores are near mirror in both sets. Case is excellent with some staining and edge wear in leather. This is an investment quality high grade small bore L.C. Smith. One of approximately 7 made A2 16 gauges and 1 of only 3- 16 gauge 2 bbl sets. This one being the only one with orig 26″ bbls. according to “L.C.
