*◊ EARLY MAUSER C96, EARLY SMALL RING WITH LONG EXTRACTOR, FRENCH DISTRIBUTOR, MATCHING STOCK.

SN 37122. Cal. 7.63MM. One of a small number of Pre-war Commercial C96s with small ring hammer but retaining the long extractor. Standard 5.5″ bbl having fixed front sight and slip-in 50-1000 rear sight. In addition to the usual chamber markings the top of the bbl is marked “Manufacture Francaise d’Armes et Cycles-St. Etienne”. Right side of frame with a standard 2 line address. Full serial number on sub-frame and frame with all appropriate small parts matched to the last 3 digits of the serial number. Major components rust blued. Fire blued, extractor, cursor, bolt stock, safety & grip screw. Strawed trigger. Special order fine checkered wood grips with the bottom of the right panel marked “9399” by the French distributor as is also found on a number of Mannlicher M1905 pistols. Lanyard ring present. Orig Mauser stock matched to the last 3 digits of a pistol, but likely a replacement as most pistols in this serial range would have had their lug matched with the full serial number. PROVENANCE: The Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Collection, Germany. CONDITION: Approximately 90-95% bright orig rust blue with most wear in front of magazine well and the front strap that has largely toned. Dull bore with shallow rifling. Bolt will not retract all the way to hold open. Manual mechanics otherwise perfect. Good re-varnished stock with several cracks and excellent rough milled lug numbered “122”.
