SEVEN HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE MID-20TH CENTURY STEIFF CATS.This very appealing lot consists of 3 of Steiff “Kitty” cats, a “Susi” cat, 2 “Tapsy” kittens, and a tiny “Tabby” cat. The Susi is sitting; the others are all standing. All are made from mohair, have pink hand embroidered noses and mouths, and green and black slit pupil eyes. The Kitty cats are five ways jointed. The largest has a most endearing face, pink claws, and retains her Steiff button and yellow tag. The medium sized, early-era Kitty has red claws and a grey cast to her; she has a working squeaker and retains her US Zone tag. The smallest has piercing eyes and a velvet muzzle; she retains her Steiff button in ear. Kitty was made from 1949-1970 in 10, 17, and 22 cm. Susi is head jointed and has a distinctly “old fashioned” look to her. She has red claws and retains her Steiff button and re-enforced US Zone tag as her IDs. Postwar, Susi was made from 1948-1978 in 10, 12, 14, 17 and 22 cm. The Tapsy cats are unjointed; both are tan and orange and retain their Steiff buttons as their ID. Tapsy was produced from 1959-1966 in 8, 11, 15 and 18 cm. The “Tabby” cat is barely a handful with her fabulous and early appearance and most endearing aqua eyes; she retains her oversized US Zone tag as her Steiff ID. It is clear she was someone’s best friend at one point in her life. She was produced in 7, 10, 14, and 17 cm from 1949-1977 overall. SIZE: Largest is 8″ h; smallest is 2-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine collection. CONDITION: As noted, with light to very light playwear, otherwise very good. 1-14609 (800-1,200) – Lot 1389 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
