EXTRAORDINARY FREE-BLOWN PITCHER POSSIBLY SANDWICH OR NEW JERSEY (CIRCA 19th CENTURY).

An example with some similar characteristics is illustrated in McKearin’s on page 201. As per McKearin’s, this is fashioned in a form that came into vogue sometime after 1830 and continued for around 40 years. Free-blown with open pontil on base having a base with small black globular form on inverted saucer base having paneled sides with bold horizontal rib separating it from the upper portion which is a beautiful white milk glass having a light lime green looping. The top with an applied black glass ribbing, the handle also of black glass. The applied solid handle with semi-ear shaped handle terminating in a flattened tail piece. This is a magnificent and imposing piece with wonderful color. SIZE: Approx 10-1/2″ to top of handle. Approx 6-3/4″ at top opening. CONDITION: Very good to excellent.
