LORD FREDERIC LEIGHTON (British, 1830-1896) MEDITERRANEAN COASTAL SCENE (POSSIBLY CAPRI).

Oil on wood panel Housed in a good fancy gilt frame with gilt liner Signed lower left “Leighton 1890” Also retaining a label on verso from the Continental Galleries of Fine Art, Montreal, Canada Board having an impressed stamp “Giosi/Napoli” in an oval Accompanying this painting is a folded letter signed by Leighton which he may be answering the original owner as to whether it could be included in an upcoming exhibition and is as follows: “I was asked yesterday on behalf of a lady who has very nice pictures and _ _ is our friend whether picture valuable. _ on loan with forthcoming exhibition and he was anxious to lend one of more from her gallery. I said that _ _ certain the idea has been given up for want of space but that i would make final everything in case any _ decision should have been framed – Will you kindly send him a line and answer? _ Your _ Leighton” SIZE: Sight: 5-1/2″ x 8-3/4″.
