*LOVELY “GOLDEN AGE” BOSS OVER-UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, SINGLE TRIGGER GAME SHOTGUN.

SN 7946. (ca 1931) Cal. 12 ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 26″ Demi-bloc bbls fitted with matted solid rib with lunate extension are engraved “Boss & Co Albemarle Street, Piccadilly, London. W.” and “Made in England” on top bbl. Right side of top bbl and flat of bottom bbl are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Bottom of bottom bbl is stamped with SN. Case hardened low profile Boss OU sidelock action features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss’s highly regarded single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved in Boss house style rose and scroll incorporating 15 rose bouquets as executed by Jack Sumner. Each side of action is engraved with patent date for OU action (1909). “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate and patent info for single trigger is on trigger plate. Small bow single beaded trigger guard is scroll engraved to match and SN is on tang. Beautifully marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over checkered wood butt, and features standard drop points and point pattern checkering with line borders at grip. One piece forend fitted with Boss’s patent ejector has Anson release, checkering has mullered borders. Bore diameter: top -.731, bottom – .732. Bore restrictions: top – .007 (IC), bottom – .007 (IC). Wall thickness: top – .030, bottom – .021 (one small area on bottom of bottom bbl about 6″ back from muzzle, but is mostly .025 plus). Drop at heel: 2-3/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Cast 5/8″ off. Weight: 6 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-7/8″. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refurbished. Bbls retain over 95% high quality rust re-blue, silvering on sharp edges, engraving slightly softened. Action and lockplates retain what appears to be 80% orig case hardening color, percentage is difficult to determine because of accumulated darkened varnish. (A good strip and clean may be in order.) Top lever and trigger guard have been re-blued and retain nearly all of that blue. Newly made stock is well shaped, and inlet. Orig forend wood refinished to match. There are some insignificant shrinkage cracks at rear portion of bbl channel. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Top bbl is somewhat off face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger works. A fine handling gun, in need of a little TLC. 51497-1 MGM139 (30,000-50,000) C&R – Lot 1338
