20″ GLASS EYE WAX DOLL.

Lovely wax doll from the latter part of the 19th century with cornflower blue glass eyes on wax shoulderplate with cloth body and wax lower arms. She wears a teal silk dress with lace trim and a blue velvet overcoat with antique leather boots with a keystone logo. According to the Maine State Museum, from which it was consigned, the doll was given for Christmas in 1884 to Mabel Sophia Trefethen (age 12) of Taunton, Massachusetts by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. W. Trefethen. They had purchased it in New York and had a dressmaker dress the doll in the latest style of that year. Comes with large glass dome for display and protection. SIZE: 20″ h. CONDITION: Overall very good. However, her left cheek shows a triangular break to the wax with hairline cracks emanating from the corners that should be addressed. Hairline across one hand with other hand missing pinkie. Clothing has faded over time but seems structurally sound. 1-15163 (700-1,100) – Lot 1308a
