GEORGE LOFTUS NOYES (American, 1864-1954) PARIS LANDSCAPE.

Oil on panel Housed in a modern gilt wood frame Signed and dated lower left “G.L. Noyes. 91”, with a French countryside landscape on the verso George Loftus Noyes, born in Ontario came to the United States as a child with his family and settled in Massachusetts, where he became a highly sought after New England landscape painter. His artistic career began in 1885 as an artist for the New England Glass company in Cambridge. In 1890 he traveled to Paris to study under Gustave Courtois and Paul-Louis DeLance. The painting Paris landscape, is dated 1891,a pivotal year in the artist’s developement. Noyes began painting “En Plein Air”, and within a year his work was accepted into the French Salon. In 1892 he returned to Boston and established his first professional artists studio. Noyes was a member of the Boston Art Club and the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. Tragically, towards the end of his career, a fire in his New Hampshire barn destroyed much of his life’s work. SIZE: 9-1/4″ x 12-3/4″.
