HAROLD HALIDAY COSTAIN (American, 1897-1994) PHOTOS & EPHEMERA RELATING TO HIS WWI TOUR ABOARD USS LEVIATHAN.

Costain served aboard the Leviathan during WWI and when it was discovered that he had his Kodak 3A Postcard camera, he was given the task of photographing activity aboard the ship. Lot consists of 8 large photos of the ship by Costain & other photographers, a photo of Costain in the band, a signed photo “Six Inch Long Range”, a hand drawn poster of the 25th reunion by Costain, an oil on board painted shipboard by Costain, a photo titled “C Deck, Port Side Life Boat Drill for Returning Troops, March 1919, USS Leviathan, at Sea” and another titled “The Skipper on the Bridge, May 1919, Capt USN Edward H. Durell, USS Leviathan”, approx 40 postcard size photos, several other unsigned photos, and miscellaneous ephemera. The lot also includes commemorative photograph with inscription from Felix Count Luckner having freehand artwork on mat, dated 1932 and signed by Costain. Several photos have artist stamp on verso.
