RARE EARLY TRANSITIONAL MODEL SQUAREBACK 1851 NAVY REVOLVER.

SN 923. Cal. 36. This is a scarce example of an early 3-digit Colt Percussion Navy revolver made in 1851, which theoretically by SN should be in 1st Model range, however this is a correct pure 2nd Model with 1-line New York address. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Good to very good overall condition original, authentic, and matching. Faint traces of original case hardening on frame and lever, with balance gray/silver. Cylinder and barrel are gray patina overall with scattered surface erosion and light to slightly heavy pitting with the heaviest pitting occurring in two areas on the cylinder and right side of frame. Left front of bbl shows muzzle wear. Grips are sound and solid, well fit, with hand worn patina, with chip at each front toe. 20% light cylinder scene remains with barely visible Ormsby signature. Buttstrap shows some tacking marks, serial numbers are all matching except cylinder which is numbered #823 rather than #923 (however we feel this is a factory error as the “9” was probably mistaken for an eight when stamped). Barrel address mostly discernible, frame not marked, approx. 20% silver on trigger guard and backstrap. Mechanically gun is functional with discernible rifling in bore. 49973-496 JS (5,000-7,000) – Lot 1203
