GALLE ETUDE MARQUETRY VASE.

Galle vase has internal decoration of colored bands of dark amber at the bottom, light amber in the middle, cream at the shoulder shading to clear then to amber at the lip. Vase is further decorated with marquetry Anemone flower, stems and leaves in purple, yellow, brown, pink, white and gray. Flowers, stems and leaves are beautifully inlaid but have not been wheel-carved, upon close inspection there are several tiny tight cracks within the Anemone inlays which often happened in the production of marquetry pieces. When Galle thought a piece was of special merit, he would sign the damaged pieces anyway and also sign them “ETUDE” meaning study, this vase is signed on the underside with engraved signature “Galle Etude”. SIZE: 7″ t. PROVENANCE: Dr. Mark Jackson Collection. CONDITION: Very good to excellent except as described above. 49863-22 (5,000-7,000) – Lot 1134
