DORIS LEE (American, 1905-1983) PRIMITIVE ISLAND LANDSCAPE.

Gouache Housed in its original molded wood frame having a “Heydenryk NY” frame label Signed lower right “Doris Lee” Lee is best known for her unique style which combines American Scene Realism and Modernism. This combination is no doubt due to her Midwestern upbringing as well as her studies with Ernest Lawson at the Kansas City Art Institute, and with Cubist Andre L’Hote in Paris. Lee, with artist husband Arnold Blanch, moved to Woodstock, New York in 1931 and became an important figure in the workings of that important art colony. Her work is included in numerous public collections, including the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum and the Pennsylvania Academy of Art among others. SIZE: Sight: 9-1/2″x 12-1/4″.
