LOT OF TEN POWDER HORNS. 1) 5-1/2″ plain horn with large carved mouth. – Flaked and insect eaten. 2) 9-1/2″ very rough plain horn. – Flaked and split. 3) 10-1/2″ carved horn with light ring carving at the mouth and high domed pine plug attached by wood pins. The scrimshaw on the other consists of houses, forts a standing man holding a halberd and flag and a circle with the inscription “MAY1777 PVT AMOS ALLEN”. – Light scratches overall with some insect damage and losses on the base. 4) 6-7/8″ plain horn with oct. mouth. – Much splitting and insect damage at the base. 5) 7-3/4″ plain horn with no carving. Base roughly nailed. – Some splits and chips, heavy horn. 6) 8-1/2″ very dark horn with replaced base. – Split to mouth, crudely attached to turned base. 7) Green painted 8-1/4″ plain horn. – Retains about 3/4 of the 3/8″ green band at the base and 1-1/4″ band at the mouth. Plug is painted to match, but is much more worn. Numerous initials are carved in the green painted plug. 8) 4-1/2″ plain horn with slightly carved mouth. – Much insect damage. 9) Modified 8-1/2″ horn. Original length was shortened considerably and new current wood mouth installed. – Much scratching, slight insect damage. 10) 8-1/2″ plain horn with turned mouth. – Roughly finished. 4-47330-126 FS599 (300-700)
