DAPPER DAN BANK & JAZZBO JIM w/ VIOLINIST.

The first bank is the classic Dapper Dan by Marx. To compete with Strauss who also made a similar toy that operated by depositing a coin, Marx created this version. Unfortunately, to remove the coins one had to remove the top dancing platform. Overall the toy is in remarkable condition. It appears that this toy must hardly have ever been used as there is very minimal wear where his arms swing and hit the side of his body, and the dancing area shows very little action where his feet would have tapped on the brown base. Some minor scuffing to lithographed sides, most likely some of this occurred when the toy was in its original box and shipped from the factory to the store to the new owner. Toy is in excellent working condition and overall condition is very fine plus. The next toy, Jazzbo Jim by Unique Art, is the more deluxe version with not only Jim on the roof, but his young sidekick the Bellhop playing a violin next to him. One could only suppose that the company having much competition by other companies producing similar toys, needed to upgrade and attract new customers so at some point, added the second figure. Again this toy is in remarkable very fine plus to near mint condition. Virtually no scuffs or scratching to not only the roof but sides as well. Visually this is one of the greatest ethnic toys produced with caricature figures on all sides. I guess one could say this toy would be politically incorrect by today’s standards. Toy is in excellent working order. SIZE: Approx 10″ & 9-1/2″ t respectively. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: As described above. 1-14739 (800-1,200) – Lot 1043
