FRENCH BUREAUX CAISSE & THREE ENGLISH BANKS INCLUDING PAGODA, COUNTY BANK, & BEAR WITH BEE HIVE.

Several variations of this French bank were manufactured; this particular version is cast iron with a brass finish to its exterior. This bank is so typical of the French architecture, particularly regarding commercial and bank buildings of the time period. The pagoda bank, relatively obscure, especially in this country since it is of English manufacture, this particular bank is quite rare, but even more so it is quite appealing being enameled in a dark green with gilt highlighting. When first viewing this bank, one can easily misinterpret this thinking it is of French manufacture since it has the typical French style. The county bank, another English bank, manufactured in cast iron with a japanned finish. What is unusual about this particular bank is the japanned finish is largely intact but it has a copper wash over the japanned finish on the highly intricate and detailed iron castings. Although European banks are not the number one choice of American collectors, this bank has quite a presence and should not be overlooked by collectors of building banks! The fourth bank in this grouping is the classic bear and beehive still bank with elaborate castings. Unfortunately, condition is somewhat poor and a possible missing stem on roof. SIZE: Approx. 9-1/2″ to 4-1/4″ t respectively. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: Overall condition of French bank is phenomenal. Pagoda bank overall is very good plus with typical wear to gold highlighting. County bank is very fine to pristine. Beehive is poor to fair. 1-14659-2, 1-14662 (650-950) – Lot 1012
