WINCHESTER 3RD MODEL 1866 OCTAGON BARREL FULL MAGAZINE RIFLE WITH CRESCENT BUTT AND SLING SWIVELS.

SN 105684. Cal. 44 RF. 24″ oct bbl, full magazine, gun metal receiver. Straight grained American walnut stocks with gun metal buttplate and fore-end cap with factory sling swivels. Bbl has standard 2-line address in front of rear sight. No cal mark. Front sight is blade type. Rear sight is fixed. Receiver has SN stamped behind trigger, under lever, with a small “LS” behind SN. Elevator is unmarked and upper tang is unmarked. Stocks have an old varnish finish with 2 brass plates attached by nails to either side of the wrist, reinforcing a crack in the wrist. Buttstock has Winchester sling swivel, as does the fore-end cap. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and magazine tube are a gray brown patina overall, with a sharp mark and some roughness towards the muzzle. Front sight blade is loose. Rear sight blade is good. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Receiver has been cleaned long ago and is returning to a mellow yellow patina. There are some dents on either side of the hammer and at the forward end of both side plates. Hammer is a silver gray patina. Lever is a chocolate brown patina. Stocks are good. Repair is loose. Stocks have an old varnish re-finish over numerous scratches and dents. Buttplate and fore-end cap were cleaned long ago and are returning to a mellow yellow patina.
