EARLY 2ND MODEL 1866 WINCHESTER SADDLE RING CARBINE IN SADDLE SCABBARD MARKED S.A. WADE MAKER ROSENBURG. TX.

SN 18668. Cal. 44 CF. Cal. is an early CF conversion. 20″ bbl. Blue finish with Gun metal receiver. Straight grained American walnut stocks with crescent butt. Silver coin front sight with gunsmith made rear sight. Bbl has “HENRY’S PATENT” mark. Gun metal receiver with replaced brass saddle ring and saddle ring stud. SN is stamped on lower left tang under butt. “CC” in front of SN. SN is also stamped on inside of upper tang mortise and on inside toe of buttplate. Saddle scabbard is a russet brown finish with 2 hanging loops and a clear makers cartouche on both sides. “F.D. SALMONS RICHMOND, TX” stamped on left side under cartouche. Manufactured in 1868. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good for this model. Bbl and magazine tube show an even gray-brown patina overall. Sights are good. Front bbl band has replaced screw. Bbl address is readable. Bore is dark with visible rifling. Gun metal receiver is good to very good, was cleaned long ago and has numerous mars and dents overall. Saddle ring and stud are replacements. SN is clearly stamped. Hammer and lever are a dark brown patina with some traces of case color on both sides of hammer. Stocks are very good, slightly undersized and have been cleaned. Forestock has carry wear in front of receiver and pieces missing on both sides in front of bbl band. Buttplate is an even mustard patina with some staining. Saddle scabbard is very good and shows a russet brown color with some dark stains and very sharp markings. A wonderful early model 1866 carbine in a hard to find Texas marked saddle scabbard. 49973-19 TEP (4,500-6,500) – Lot 1009
