Our spring 2015 Advertising, Toy & Doll auction was a success by all measures. This auction featured a select grouping of early American tin, pressed steel and cast iron toys, several of which came from the collection of the late Laurence Hapgood. Laurence was a judicious collector focusing on quality, condition and rarity. This were jointed by selections from other quality east coast collections including mechanical and still banks, automotive & horse drawn toys, etc. as well as a massive 41″ Marklin “Olympia” clockwork ocean liner. Also up for bid was a variety of top shelf dolls including French and German character bisque dolls including Bru, Jumeau, Kestner, Steiner, and others. These were joined by a generous selection of rare coin-op machines including a rare Double Dewey slot machine, a rare and desirable Busy Bee trade stimulator, plus other gambling, vending, and arcade pieces, as well as fine music machines including cylinder, disc, and phonographs – including a Wurlitzer 1015 jukebox. The sale was rounded out by an offering of antique advertising signs, calendars and displays, salesman samples including agricultural implements, a single-owner collection of nearly 200 Victorian figural napkin rings, and more.
