Both identically housed in original gilt gesso decorated frames which are “as is”. 1) Oil on board scene shows Portland Headlight with connected buildings on rocky point with crashing waves. Signed lower left. 2) Oil on board scene shows a sailboat passing a lighthouse in the middle of a bay, possibly Portland, Maine. Signed lower right. SIZE: 6″ x 10″. Attached to back is the original bill of sale from “Edgar F. Hubert” and signed by Edgar and Anne, dated December 3rd, 1975 with title, artist and “This painting was in Mr. Fitzgerald’s studio on Monhegan Island at the time that we took possession under the terms of his will in 1971”. UNSIGNED (American, Mid-20th Century) THE WINTER LOBSTERMEN OFF MONHEGAN. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows three separate lobster boats with lobstermen pulling traps. Each boat has a canvas tarp front. Seagulls are seen in foreground over a chopped white tipped sea. The cliffs of Monhegan Island are seen with snow patches and the painting depicts the rugged nature of the Maine lobsterman. Housed in what appears to be its original decorated frame. MICHELE FALANGA (American, 1870-1942) “IT’S A HOMER, 1911”. Outstanding oil on canvas schoolyard baseball game scene. Showing a boy in blue overalls and white shirt just hitting a good hit. Home plate is at his feet and behind him is a boy in brown shorts and white shirt wearing a catcher’s mask and glove. Thirteen other boys with similar outfits for each team are seen in background with amazed expressions at the long hit ball. A wood fence is seen beyond the grassy field under a tree branch. Inscribed and signed bottom right, “Copyright 1911 by M. Falanga”. Housed in a fine carved and gilt wood frame with linen liner and gilt name plaque. Mr. Falanga moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1901 from Naples, Italy and founded and directed the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts. Only a handful of his paintings have come to market, and this work exemplifies his talent and ability to capture the moment. Oil on board scene shows six hands reaching upwards, one grasping a ladder rung, one holding another hand which comes from above leaving four that are open. The work is done in shades of brown and tan. Housed in a modern carved and gilt molded wood frame with linen and gilt liner having a Guido Frame Studio label. NOTE: A letter on Stockbridge, Massachusetts letterhead dated July 30, 1963 in typed word reads: “Dear Mrs. Bradlee In regards to the “Hands” picture it was simply an idea I had to be used as a poster for some extremely good cause, but it never materialized. I am very glad that you liked it enough to purchase it. Kindest regards, Sincerely, (signed) Norman Rockwell”. Also the original envelope accompanies letter indicating it went to “Mrs. Sargent Bradlee 1025 Hale St. Beverly Farms, Mass.” The envelope having a “Norman Rockwell Stockbridge, Massachusetts” on back of envelope. The lithograph can be seen in its entirety and is mounted on a linen backing. Back of foam core backing has a label from the Obelisk Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts with title and artist. Also an Alon Gallery, Brookline, Massachusetts label. A copy of the original receipt from Obelisk Gallery dated May 4th, 1968. SIZE: 49-1/2″ h x 36″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine southern Maine coastal home. CONDITION: Under close examination there appears to be several areas along the left border outside of the image that appears to have been restored cracks/tears and the left margin edge has paper restoration. ATTRIBUTED TO CORNELIUS DUSART (Dutch, 1660-1704) WATERCOLOR TROMPE LE OILE PORTRAIT OF A MAN. This interesting piece has a background in watercolor that resembles a wood board. The artist has painted a portrait edged in black with a margin and has fooled the viewer into thinking that this was secured to the board with eight spots of red sealing wax but in fact it is one watercolor image.
