Correction: The catalog indicates that this is the more common of the three; it is actually the least common of the three. It also states in the description that the bank was damaged from use, this is not true, the bank is not damaged from use, it is somewhat temperamental and in functional working order.

RARE GERMAN TIN MECHANICAL BANK: CLOWN & DOG. Of unknown manufacture, there were a variety of tin mechanical banks produced in Germany during the 1920s-30s. There are three similar banks: Clever Dick, Clown & Dog, and Saluting Sailor. This particular bank, the more common of the three, features a lithographed clown figure with a panting dog at his feet. When the clown’s arm is locked into position, the coin is placed in the clown’s hand, and the dog’s tongue is pushed, the bank is activated, lurching the clown’s arm upwards and the coin flies around in a circle and is deposited in the clown’s back end. This bank was damaged from use, and with the scrap drives during this time period, many of these banks were destroyed. Lithographed in a variety of pale colors, this is a nice bank. SIZE: 6-3/4″ h x 4-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Overall fair to good, bank needs a good cleaning and polishing to the lithographed finish. Iron key is present for lock on bottom of bank. Bank is complete and sort of functional, but in need of minor adjustment. 1-13139 (1,500-2,500)

BOXED SCHOENHUT CIRCUS 21/44 TOY MENAGERIE ANIMALS. A boxed Schoenhut Circus set from the 1920s-30s of reduced Schoenhut animals. Included is a giraffe, brown bear, ostrich, lion, tiger, zebra, hippo, rhino, buffalo, elephant, zebra with platform, and camel. Animals, as typical in this size, all have painted eyes. The set appears to be in virtually unplayed with condition and the stringing is somewhat aged and loose. Any wear is most likely from being stored loosely within the box and there is virtually minimal paint loss/chipping to the animals. Box label indicates small size twelve assorted pieces with item number 21/44. Included with the lot is an original color fold up flyer for Schoenhut Humpty Dumpty Circus toys. Cardboard box has a vibrantly colored label on the lid showing a circus tent with various animals and figures. SIZE: Box measure 22″ x 17″. Animals range from 5-1/2″ to 7-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Overall very fine to near mint. Box flaps detached at corners. 1-12592 (2,000-2,500)
