12-1/2” GERMAN BISQUE KESTNER 143 CHILD. Wonderful little character with brown sleep eyes, open mouth with two upper teeth, and fully jointed Kestner body. 16” GERMAN PAPIER-MÂCHÉ LADY W/ RARE HAIRDO. A fine example of a papier-mâché Milliner’s model. Doll has molded bun in back and braided tendrils. She has a fabulous silk seafoam green high-waisted dress with gathered sleeves. 10” FRENCH PAPIER-MÂCHÉ. A fine French painted eye papier-mâché with painted pate with human hair attached. The human hair wig has curls that go down in front of ears, exposing them and curl back up into a braid; wig slightly detached and original nail holes (to keep wig in place) are visible. She is on a pink kid body (faded) and is not wearing original clothing, but has original underwear. CONDITION: Overall very fine original untouched condition. 18” GERMAN GLASS EYED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ MAN. Young man with molded black hair and painted curls on forehead, also having pierced nostrils on a milliner-type body. CONDITION: Overall condition is good, there has been repair and touch up to molded shoulder plate and head. 1-1015 JL159 (400-600)

9” GERMAN PAPIER-MÂCHÉ MILLINER’S MODEL WITH WARDROBE. A fine example of a small milliner’s model with curls descending onto the back of her neck. Several garments are included along with a box of miniature books including “Bob the Cabin Boy”. Doll originally belonged to “Miss Mary E. Hall”. Doll and wardrobe come in an older box with children on label and blue ribbon from 1981 UFDC Exhibit. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good. 13” GERMAN BISQUE CHARACTER KNOWN AS “UNCLE SAM”. Marked on back of head with a large “S.”, below that is marked with a “1” and “Germany”. A wonderful, deeply molded character doll that is totally original with wonderful bisque and detailing. He has stationary blue eyes and human hair wig and goatee. 16” KR CHARACTER 124 KNOWN AS “MORITZ”. A wonderful and rare impish character. He has blue flirty eyes and original wig. EXTREMELY RARE BLACK SMILING VAN ROZEN CHARACTER BOY. A truly unique an outstanding example of the Van Rozen character series. This young man is dressed as a Marquis and has marked French shoes (with bumblebee) and is wearing a white powder human hair wig and a three cornered hat. He is fully marked on rear of head “VAN ROZEN, FRANCE DEPOSE”. Doll has extreme molding with open lips exposing his molded teeth in a smiling fashion. He has inset dark brown eyes that are highlighted with painted black eyelashes. 26″ FRENCH BISQUE J.M. BEBE. A wonderful large size in this rare French bebe with golden brown eyes and soft pale bisque with lavender eyeshadowing. She is on a fully jointed French composition and wood body with straight wrists and is wearing a plaid silk lavender dress and antique children’s shoes. RARE 28″ BEBE MOTHEREAU. An extremely fine example of a rare doll, which has light brown threaded paperweight eyes with mauve eye shadowing. She retains her original skin wig and is wearing perhaps her original red cotton dress with black piping and has marked French shoes. Rear of head is marked “B. 10 M.”. RARE 15” FRENCH A 7 T BEBE. This stunning doll has deep blue paperweight eyes that follow you around the room. She is in her original chemise, leather shoes marked “PARIS” with running dog on bottom and on a proper style straight-wristed French composition body. She has an antique blonde, curly mohair wig with extensions and a replica of a French Bebe dress, but is wearing also a marked French antique straw hat. 20” GERMAN BISQUE CHILD MARKED 136. A lovely doll wearing an early aqua silk dress with black leather shoes. 17” STEINER SERIES “C” BEBE. A very fine example with dark brown paperweight eyes, mauve eye shadowing and a very expressive face. She is on a straight-wristed, jointed, composition Steiner body. Her clothing and wig (sparse) are original and the shoes are antique. CONDITION: Body overall is in very fine condition, however, one wrist shows wear due to fact of bracelet. 17” FRENCH BISQUE BEBE MARKED “J • 1” CHILD. Attributed to Joseph Joany, this doll has amber eyes with mauve eye shadowing and uniform bisque throughout. She is wearing her original blonde mohair wig and a two-piece wine silk bebe dress with antique matching straw hat and antique brown leather shoes. She is on an early French body with straight wrists. CONDITION: Body has overall wear with some peeling on lower arms and repair at neck socket. 1-1151 JL78 (4,500-5,500)

17” WOOD FRENCH COURT DOLL. A very rare doll of carved wood with a jointed body and molded and carved hair. This hermaphrodite (male/female sexed), is in all original untouched condition. He/she has a wooden torso with legs (painted socks & shoes) connected at the hip, a carved bust and sex organs and well-detailed hands connected at the elbow. Doll is wearing period print costume that is somewhat frail and a lace and satin bonnet attached by ribbon through its elaborate hairdo. CONDITION: Overall very good considering age of doll. 16” FRENCH COURT DOLL. A well-carved and costumed French court doll made of wood with inset glass pupil-less eyes. The intricate costume of silk and gold brocade has deteriorated with age but feel the doll is in all original untouched condition. Accompanying this doll is a first class ribbon, a note from the USDC judges and an original auction description tag. 1-737 JL115 (1,000-1,200)

OUTSTANDING 17” ENGLISH WOOD WILLIAM & MARY DOLL. Perhaps the finest and rarest doll in the Schmidt collection. This extremely rare doll was probably the highlight of Dr. & Mrs. Schmidt’s purchasing. It was bought at a London auction in which they competed with the London Museum. Dr. & Mrs. Schmidt were determined to buy the doll as was the London Museum. Obviously the Schmidt’s won out. This doll dates from the late 17th century and appears to be in all original, untouched condition! This doll has finely molded facial details including elaborately carved ears and painted eyes, mouth and cheeks. Fingers are well defined and carved (damage to three fingers on right hand). Wooden legs are covered in green silk and she has leather shoes made for her feet. Her chartreuse silk dress covers a multi-colored linen skirt with an aqua blue blouse, gauze apron and a bonnet to complete the ensemble. CONDITION: Original skull cap intact but majority of hair is missing. There are two cheek scuffs to doll’s left cheek. Considering the age of the doll, we still feel that her condition is outstanding. 1-814 JL112 (25,000-75,000)

19” QUEEN ANNE-TYPE WOODEN DOLL. A well-defined Queen Anne with brown pupil-less insect glass eyes, carved facial details, molded breastplate, wooden arms and jointed wooden legs. The undergarment is a cotton print that is covered by a quilted chartreuse leaded satin skirt which is in turn covered by an aqua leaded satin dress and topped with a gauze coverlet that is enhanced with embroidery. She has a brown human hair wig (replaced) and lace bonnet with fine silk pink and silver brocade ribbon. CONDITION: Under examination by magnifying glass and black light, there is indication of a small amount of touch-up to face. 1-718 JL116 (10,000-12,000)

13” QUEEN ANNE-TYPE WOODEN DOLL. A particularly appealing size, she is dressed in old print fabric and has pupil-less brown glass eyes. CONDITION: Head has been professionally restored and it is believed that arms are also replacements. 1-719 JL114 (600-800)

23” QUEEN ANNE-TYPE WOODEN DOLL. This large glass-eyed Queen Anne is rare and has been well played with but is still very appealing. The doll has a wooden torso with wooden lower legs jointed at the hip. The arms are cloth and probably were replaced some time ago. The brown human hair wig and replica silk gown has been made for her. CONDITION: Overall fair with much paint loss to chin and elsewhere on face. 1-716 JL113 ()1,500-2,000

14” ALL ORIGINAL AM 401 FLAPPER LADY. A charming young girl with blue sleep eyes and brown mohair wig. She has on her original underwear, stockings and shoes and a knit pink and white cotton dress with matching hat (probably “mother made”). Body is the proper composition flapper style body. 14” GERMAN BISQUE KR 109 CHARACTER CHILD. A handsome and rare cabinet size doll with painted eyes and winsome face. He is dressed in antique regional boys costume and has replaced blonde human hair wig. He is on a fully jointed KR body. There is a cotton dress and hat also included in this lot. 24” FRENCH BISQUE BEBE MARKED “M 9”. A very pleasant example of an “M” with large blue paperweight eyes with a hint of a smile on her face. Bisque is even with rosy colored cheeks on a fully jointed wood body. She is wearing a French-style blue dress (some fading), antique leather boots and a sandy colored mohair wig with cork pate. 20” FRENCH CLOSED MOUTH BEBE. A stunning example of a French Bebe with large blue paperweight eyes and mauve eye shadowing. Marked with an “8” on rear of head. On straight wristed 8-ball jointed composition body. She has a wonderful high waisted pink satin dress with lace insets and trim, highlighted by a pink ribbon below the bust line. Her accessories include a charming cream parasol, a gold watch on chain, a fur muff and has black leather shoes marked “8” and a replacement human hair wig. CONDITION: Body overall in very good condition with paint loss at joints and shoulders. VERY RARE BROWN CIRCLE DOT BRU. Marked with “CIRCLE DOT” and number “3” on head, “BRU JNE” on shoulder plate and stamped “BEBE BRU #3” on leather torso. RARE 18” HURET CHILD. A fine and desirable example on a fully articulated wood body. This expressive child with light blue threaded paperweight eyes and closed mouth has beautiful bisque throughout. She is wearing and antique blue gingham dress with silk ivory blouse, curly blonde lambs wool wig and is adorned by an antique watch and chain. CONDITION: Body has been stripped of paint and several fingers have been replaced. RARE 18” MARKED PAINTED EYE HURET FASHION. An outstanding example of a rare and desirable doll with a fully marked body. She has a swivel neck, painted cornflower eyes and delicate features that enhance her pale bisque. The leather torso has the “Huret” stamp and address of the firm. She wears a wonderful antique costume with wonderful black silk slippers with heels marked “T” on the sole. Accompanied by receipt indicating its purchase in 1974 for $1,250 as well as a general history and the business card from the person from whom it was purchased. 17” F.G. FRENCH FASHION. A stunning example of an F.G. on a Gesland body with bisque hands and lower legs. This doll is in all original condition with a gauze and lace trimmed dress that is highlighted with silk aqua ribbons. She is wearing her original blonde French mohair wig and a great straw hat to complete her ensemble. 25” FRENCH BISQUE F.G. POUPEE. A wonderful large example with a serene expression, beautiful paint detail, and pale gray eyes. She has her original blonde mohair wig, and is on a gusseted French body wearing an elaborate replaced aqua-velvet gown and white leather boots. 19” FRENCH BISQUE JUMEAU POUPEE. An extremely lovely French fashion with blonde mohair wig and lavishly painted lashes. RARE 16” FRENCH A.T. BEBE . A truly beautiful “A 5 T” with bulbous blue paperweight eyes and well-defined molding, unfortunately this doll has had restoration to the right side of her face. She is on a Bru body with a Bru shoulder plate (BRU Jne #4). She is wearing a blonde mohair wig with a cream sating dress highlighted with silk netting and antique boots. 14” FRENCH M4 BEBE. Closed mouth doll with blue paperweight eyes and upturned lips with nice bisque. She is on a fully jointed French composition body and is wearing an older lace dress and hat with an antique blonde mohair wig. CONDITION: Doll has some peppering. RARE 15” F. R. BEBE. Attributed to Falck & Roussel, this Bebe is on a fully jointed French composition style body with straight wrists and marked “FR” with number “5” underneath. Her blue paperweight eyes accentuate her deeply inset down-turned closed mouth. The doll is wearing a silk Bebe dress with lace trip and antique red leather shoes. She retains a cork pate with dirty blonde mohair wig. CONDITION: Beautiful even bisque with minute cheek scuff on doll’s left cheek. 1-828 JL65 (5,000-6,000)

16” GERMAN KPM CHINA LADY WITH MOLDED BUN. A very proper looking young woman with dark brown painted hair pulled back in bun with exposed ears. She has pale blue eyes and a pert little smile. She is on an early cloth body wearing a two-piece hand sewn red cotton dress and a newer black velvet cape. CONDITION: Some light speckling to face. Body is sturdy with some soiling and some wear, especially to toes. Very light scuffing on back of bun. 1-963 CL 56 (1,800-2,200)

16-1/2” KPM GERMAN CHINA MAN. He has a pleasant smiling face with highly molded hair and fine facial detailing, but unfortunately has been repaired on shoulder plate. He is on a cloth body with leather arms and wears an older man’s shirt and pants. CONDITION: Shoulder plate is extensively restored but does not show above collar. 17” FRENCH GLASS EYE CHINA POUPEE. A very lovely doll with unusual detail of eyeliner to top and bottom eyelids. She has fine lashes and feathered brows and a beautifully painted smile. She is in original frail costume with a letter of provenance stating that she was a Paris doll brought from Paris in 1860 and given to Ida E. Williks by her father, Joseph Williks in Parisian costume of the time. Signed by Helen Coffin Buchanan. CONDITION: On a sturdy body missing shoes and wig. Costume is frail. 13” FRENCH CHINA LADY. She has beautiful cobalt blue painted eyes and a serene expression. She is on a French kid body, has a braided mohair wig, and is dressed in an older two-piece blue and gray iridescent silk costume and antique underwear. 18” KPM GERMAN CHINA LADY. A great example with molded bun and exposed ears. She is on an old cloth body with red leather arms wearing a red checked homespun dress and original red leather slippers. She is marked with a “7” on the back of her shoulder plate. CONDITION: Head has been reattached to body at some point. There is a firing crack at stringing hole on shoulder plate and another coming down to meet it, neither are visible when dressed. Minor scuffing to hair, cheek and forehead. 15” SCHMITT BEBE. An outstanding example of a Schmitt with threaded blue eyes, pale bisque, fully jointed marked Schmitt body. Doll is wearing antique shoes, underwear, blonde mohair wig and mother made or later French skirt and jacket with matching hat. Marked on the rear of head with the Schmitt shield and a “0” below, original composition pate is also marked with shield and a “0”. CONDITION: Composition body has normal wear at joints although torso shows crazing to composition. A few minor wig chips to side and rear of head. 14” FRENCH SCHMITT BEBE. Marked with the Schmitt shield on rear of head and “0” below, she has threaded blue paperweight eyes, beautiful pale bisque and is on a straight wristed, jointed Schmitt (marked) composition body. She is wearing a white cotton coat with scarf and muff, a human hair wig and a fancy pink-feathered hat. CONDITION: Doll has hairline from right eyebrow to top of crown, which is not readily visible and does not detract from her beauty. 1-878 JL99 (2,500-3,000)

17” RARE SCHMITT BEBE WITH WAX HEAD. A very unusual Schmitt Bebe with a wax over head on a marked Schmitt body. Body is stamped on derrière with Schmitt mark and also has large oval stamp on torso. The doll has inset blue threaded paperweight eyes, is wearing antique clothing, shoes and original wig. CONDITION: Overall very fine condition. 19” BLACK PARIS BEBE ??. Unmarked on rear of head except for the number “8”. The head is attached to the body with an inverted wood dowel. The composition body is fully jointed and has round paper label on rear from a Paris toy store. The doll has amber set paperweight eyes with red lips and dark eyebrows. 21” F.G. GESLAND BEBE. Doll has a marked body and rear of head “F.G.” is in scroll with number “8” under scroll. 14” BLACK OPEN MOUTH STEINER A7 BEBE. A fine example of a rare doll! She is on a fully jointed Steiner body and has golden brown paperweight eyes and has her original pate and knappy hair wig. She is wearing an original lace and ribbon dress (dress has paper tag inside) and has a beaded necklace. FINE FRENCH JUMEAU SMOKING AUTOMATON. This automaton features and elegant gentleman smoking. When activated, the music plays, the gentleman nods his head and also swivels from left to right while raising his right hand, which contains an ivory-type cigarette holder to take a puff of his cigarette. Marked Tete Jumeau #2 head with blue paperweight eyes and open mouth with original wig, hat, pants and shoes (coat has been replaced). First place ribbon from 1975 UFDC National Doll Convention. WONDERFUL JUMEAU AUTOMATON “PUNCH” TYPE FIGURE WITH CYMBALS. A truly captivating brown-eyed Tete Jumeau #4 automaton in original costume and wig, clapping her cymbals together while nodding her head from left to right. SIZE: 5” x 5” x 19”. FRENCH SCHOOLBOY AND FIFI O’TOOLE AUTOMATONS MANUFACTURED BY ROULETTE DE CAMP. A wonderful pair of boy with school bag and a young girl holding an infant child. When wound, they sway from left to right while also turning their heads in a comical way. SIZE: 12” h. FINE FRENCH AUTOMATION OF A LADY WITH EGG. When activated, the young lady taps the egg that she is holding with a cymbal and the top of the egg opens revealing a glass-eyed monkey peeking out. The head has blue paperweight eyes and is made of bisque with a closed mouth and marked “M1” on rear. Clothing is made of silk, and if not original, shows some age. SIZE: 4-1/2” x 4” x 16”. 15” GERMAN BISQUE DOLL MARKED 989. A handsome cabinet size doll with brown sleep eyes and square cut teeth. He has his original blonde curly mohair wig and is redressed in red velvet boys costume with newer shoes. He is on a fully jointed early straight wristed German body. 16” CLOSED-MOUTHED GERMAN SHOULDER HEAD DOLL. Doll is unmarked and wears an antique gold cotton dress with black trim. She has beautiful bisque, pale blue sleep eyes, original blonde mohair wig, and antique black leather shoes. CONDITION: Body is in overall good condition but has splits at hip and is leaking sawdust. 18” BRU Jne “8”. A beautiful example of a later Bru Jne with bulbous deep blue paperweight eyes. She is wearing an antique pink satin Bebe dress with a long pleated train (possibly original to her). She has a chevrot body (wood lower legs repainted), an antique blonde mohair wig and leather shoes. 15” BISQUE NURSING BRU BÉBÉ. A wonderful example with beautiful bisque and nice painting detail. This bébé retains her original blonde mohair wig, cork pate, and original mechanism in head is still intact. Her beautiful lace and gauze baby costume is adorned with pink silk ribbons and is original. She wears layers of undergarments and has her original buttoned diaper. She is on a fully jointed composition French body. A wonderful find! CONDITION: Body retains original finish with normal wear, otherwise good condition. Earring loop is chipped on left ear. 15” BRU Jne #4 BEBE. An affordable Bru Jne with molded tongue with deep mottling, chevrot body and baby blue paperweight eyes (one eye cracked) that has had restoration to the head. Doll has blonde mohair wig and replaced French-style clothing. CONDITION: Restoration involved a crack running from top of head between left eye and ear, under chin and continuing behind the right ear to the top of head. Paint spray has been removed, exposing a small white line (1/4” w) starting at lower ear and continuing under chin; this is not visible when wig is in place. Proper arms are in place but extra kid has been glued on at elbow joints. Leather body overall in good to very good condition, lower wood legs have been repainted. 1-855 JL58 (3,000-4,000)

21” STEINER A.13 BEBE. Doll has blue paperweight eyes and is on a straight-wristed marked Steiner body with voice box. She is wearing an ivory low-waisted blue and white eyelet dress with antique leather shoes and has a French human hair wig. CONDITION: This doll was originally sold to the Schmidt’s as an “AT”, hence the marking on the rear of head of “A.13 T” (“T” has been etched into bisque). 23” STEINER BEBE SERIES C. A beautiful early example of a Steiner with blue paperweight eyes, slight mauve shadowing and peaches n’ cream bisque. 19” KPM GERMAN CHINA LADY. A beautiful example with rare brown molded hair pulled back in bun. Wonderful molding and painting to face with a slight smile and blue eyes. 15” ORIENTAL FASHION. A stunning fashion with well-defined oriental features. She has her original human hair wig, and is on a fully jointed wood fashion body. This highly unusual character box consisting of one complete doll (13-1/2”) and two additional character heads with change of clothing is incorporated in its original display box. She has a cork pate and a replaced black mohair wig. This doll is dressed in a lovely two-piece tan plaid silk costume with purple velvet trim and antique matching hat. 26” “PORTRAIT FACE” JUMEAU FASHION. A captivating Jumeau fashion on a gusseted kid and cloth body (appears several leather fingers have been reattached) in all original condition. The doll has attached ears, cornflower blue paperweight eyes highlighting her creamy bisque and finely painted eyebrows. She is dressed in a royal blue leaded silk dress with dark velvet apron, collar puffs and bustle and is adorned by a pair of gold leaf earrings. The dress is highlighted with a multi-colored ribbon. She retains her original sandy mohair wig and a silk-lined straw bonnet. CONDITION: The dress is fragile and shows signs of wear and melting in various spots, the dress has not been removed for inspection of body. A very appealing doll that would enhance any collection. CONDITION: Normal wear on face and neck with more wear to back of head. Her nose has been repaired and her hands and arms are repainted. 20” GERMAN CHINA KNOWN AS “MORNING GLORY”. A very rare and desirable china featuring braided molded bun with molded flower detailing behind each ear. She has a very pleasant face with pale blue eyes and exquisite detailing to hair. She is on an old cloth body with china limbs and is dressed in antique cotton fabrics and antique underwear. Unfortunately, her shoulder plate and neck have been repaired but do not affect any of the face or painting detail and do not detract from her appeal. An affordable find. 15” FRENCH CHINA POUPEE. A lovely china with serious expression. She has bright blue glass eyes, fine detailing to lashes and brows, and beautiful complexion. 14″ SIMON & HALBIG 1469 FLAPPER LADY. Stunning example with pale gray blue eyes, flawless bisques, original bobbed blonde mohair wig. She is wonderfully costumed in 20’s style gauze wedding dress and net veil. She is wearing white leather replacement slippers, long silk stockings, and carries a bouquet of cloth flowers. 15” B.P. CHARACTER GIRL BY SWAINE. An extremely appealing and well-molded all original character with intaglio eyes and a mischievous smile. She is on a jointed composition body (hands repainted) and is wearing regional clothing with a black floss wig. 7″ HEUBACH CHARACTER DOLL W/ TRUNK. Charming closed mouth character doll with blue glass eyes, jointed German composition body with bent arms and straight wrists, wearing gauze print dress and brown mohair wig in braids. 18” FRENCH BISQUE POUPEE BARROIS TYPE. A wonderful full-faced shoulder-head with cobalt blue eyes and fine facial detail. She has a kid-over wood body with bisque lower arms and is wearing a two-piece navy blue wool suit with antique blouse, underwear and hat. 18” ROHMER FASHION. A stunning Rohmer fashion with “cup and saucer” neck on a marked kid body. She has bisque arms attached to the leather upper, which swivel at the shoulder. Her pale bisque is accentuated by her cobalt blue eyes. She is wearing a striped blue and white wool outfit, black leather boots and a cotton blouse with blue piping, a (possibly original) sandy blonde human hair wig and a felt pill box hat with velvet leaf attachments. 22” FRENCH FASHION MARKED “B. 6 S.”. A somber-faced French fashion with pouty lips, pale bisque and stiff neck on a gusseted kid body. She is wearing an antique pink cotton dress (somewhat fragile) with lace trim and matching bonnet, she has her original sandy brown mohair wig with curls extending down and antique brown leather boots. 25” FRENCH BISQUE POUPEE JUMEAU. A lovely French fashion with beautiful complexion and sweet expression. She has blue paperweight eyes. Her original cork pate and auburn mohair wig. She is on a leather fashion body wearing antique baby gown and underwear. CONDITION: She has a hairline crack from her left eye going back towards ear and up to rim. 13-1/2” GERMAN MILLINER’S MODEL W/ LONG BRAIDS. An outstanding example of a milliner’s style doll that is all original, including provenance note of original owner and a box in which doll was stored away in for many years. According to note, doll is from late 1830’s. Doll is dressed in a gauze outfit highlighted by red silk ribbon and lace. Doll has exposed ears and long braids, trailing down onto shoulders. 15” FRENCH PAPIER-MÂCHÉ LADY. A fine example of the French PAPIER-MÂCHÉ with painted skull cap, applied human hair wig & a pink kid body (slight fading to body). 18” GERMAN PAPIER-MACHÉ MAN. This man has short, curly black hair with brown painted eyes and is on a French kid body. He is wearing a velvet overcoat with plaid vest and wool knickers. CONDITION: Head has lots of crackling and lifting of surface, although there is no repainting. 1-1012 CL95 (300-500)

12” GREINER W/ ’58 LABEL. A wonderful small size for a Greiner. She has black hairdo with exposed ears, blue eyes and is on a cloth body with leather arms. Doll retains only original underwear. 24” CLOSE-MOUTHED KESTNER. This pensive faced early Kestner marked “15” on back of head has brown glass sleep eyes and pale bisque. She is on an early chunky straight-wristed Kestner body. She has a blonde mohair wig, antique leather shoes and undergarments, and an aqua dress with black velvet trim with matching tam. A nice example of the so-called Belton-type doll with pale bisque, dressed in an antique blue and black two-piece French-type outfit and matching bonnet (doll lacking shoes). 18” FRENCH BISQUE BEBE MARKED “M 5”. Doll has amber paperweight eyes, blonde mohair wig with cork pate and a hint of a smile. Her bisque is uniform and she is on a fully jointed French composition body; retaining original underwear and chemise (new shoes). 15” BEBE MOTHEREAU. A rare French Bebe with pale bisque and light brown eyes with slight mauve shadowing above eyes. Marked on rear of head “B 4 M” and on a French straight wristed composition body. She is wearing an antique white dress with a French auburn human hair wig. CONDITION: Chip at forehead crown, hairline proceeding from chip down to outside corner of left eye and continuing towards the ear. When wig is in place, hairline is not visible. Believe the bulk of the outfits to be made by mother of original owner of doll with hats added later. A great package. Doll shows a fair amount of wear to face and head, but still quite acceptable. She is on a French jointed composition body and is wearing an embroidered cotton frock that is highlighted by pink silk ribbons. She has an antique sandy brown mohair wig with a fancy bonnet, and original shoes marked “PARIS DEPOSE 11” (with bumblebee on sole). 25” LONG FACE JUMEAU. A truly beautiful example of a so-called “Triste” Jumeau. Doll is marked on rear of head with number “11” and is on an eight ball jointed marked Jumeau body also with Paris store label, “JEUX & JOUETS”. The somber-faced doll has pale bisque with light mauve shadowing, cornflower blue paperweight eyes and sandy blonde mohair wig. Marked size “11” French leather shoes (frail condition) and wearing an aqua checked wool frock with feather stitching and matching aqua hat. Doll has a fully jointed composition French body, original wig and blue and red antique cotton print dress. 22” PARIS BEBE. A fine example of this French Bebe with blue paperweight eyes and full upturned lips. Peaches n’ cream bisque with trademark Paris Bebe nose. Doll is on a fully jointed and marked composition and ball-jointed body. Unfortunately, the doll has a line from her right ear and extending a little over an inch towards her chin, more visible from the inside. She is wearing antique white dress with blue ribbon trim, antique sateen blue shoes and a blonde mohair wig. 17” FRENCH BISQUE BEBE MARKED “M 6”. This Bebe has pale bisque with blue paperweight eyes and is on a French-style, fully jointed and composition wood body (repainted). RARE 24” SERIES 1 PORTRAIT JUMEAU #4. A truly beautiful and desirable doll in this large size, despite condition. The doll has amber eyes with an almond eye cut. CONDITION: The doll has had restoration to the head. Restoration is above eyebrows (forehead) and does not infringe upon the painted facial details and could be covered by the appropriate wig. Small eye chip repair to the rim of the doll’s lower left eye. Body is a Kestner, straight-wristed composition ball-jointed body. 1-845 JL36 (2,500-3,500)

19” CIRCLE DOT BRU BEBE. A well-molded Bru with beautiful blue paperweight eyes, but unfortunately the head has had extensive restoration. She is on her original leather body with bisque lower arms (thumb repaired on left hand) and some patching at gussets. She is dressed in newer French-style clothing, shoes and wig. CONDITION: Extent of damage unknown due to fact that the cork pate is glued tight to head. 1-848 JL59 (2,500-3,000)

23” BRU Jne #10 BEBE. This larger size Bru Jne with blue paperweight eyes, even complexion bisque and hint of a molded tongue is on a fully jointed composition and wood Bru body (unmarked). She is wearing antique French leather shoes, original underwear and appropriate French-style silk dress with matching hat. CONDITION: Body has flaking on lower arms and derriere, otherwise in good to very good condition. 27” E. D. JUMEAU. An affordable doll for the collector who would like a nice close mouth example of a Jumeau doll with some damage (spider hairline) to the side of the head. The doll has large blue paperweight eyes and is on an unmarked fully jointed composition Jumeau body (repainted hands). She is wearing in an elaborate silk French-style Bebe dress and antique leather shoes. She has a brown human hair wig with curls. 19” TETE JUMEAU #8. This doll has blue paperweight eyes, an open mouth and is on a stamped, fully jointed Jumeau composition body. She is wearing an older pink dress and has a replacement French human hair wig. Bisque has a nice even complexion with very slight whiteness to nose. 16” F.G. BEBE. Rear of head is marked with “F.G.” in scroll. This doll has blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque and is on a 5-piece, jointed wrist composition body. 12” TETE JUMEAU #3. This little charmer with blue paperweight eyes and accentuated lips is on a fully jointed and marked composition Jumeau body. She has a replacement (but old) maroon satin dress and antique undergarments. CONDITION: Body is very fine with minor wear at joints. She has some paint and composition loss to right forearm. 22” PETIT & DUMONTIER BEBE. This rare French Bebe has threaded blue paperweight eyes and is on a jointed French composition body with metal hands. The head is marked on rear “P.4.D”. This Bebe’s sorrow is that she has had restoration to her head. This doll is dressed in maroon corduroy dress with sandy blonde mohair wig and antique shoes. CONDITION: Restoration to head appears to be extensive in the forehead and eye area, however, the doll is still quite presentable and pretty. 1-781 JL79 (2,500-3,000)

16” FRENCH BISQUE BRU-TYPE POUPEE. A lovely French fashion with pale bisque and gray paperweight eyes. She is on a French leather body and has original blonde mohair wig. She is dressed in a wonderful early gold and blue print silk costume in frail condition. She has on antique underwear and original black high-heeled slippers. A fine addition to any collection. 13” FRENCH FASHION. Another fine example of a stiff-necked gusseted kid French fashion with bisque arms that is in all original condition except for missing shoes. 29” F.G. FASHION. A very nice example of a large fashion with pale blue threaded paperweight eyes and fine bisque. There is slight mauve shadowing above eyes. This doll is on a gusseted kid body and wearing a floral print silk gown (minor deterioration) and antique leather shoes. Curly human hair wig with matching straw and fabric bonnet and comes with a black parasol to complete her ensemble. 15” TWO FACE BARTENSTEIN WAX OVER PAPER MACHE BABY. An unusual baby with glass inset eyes, one face is smiling the other is open mouthed and crying. Motchmann-style body with two pull-cords; one for crier the other to revolve head. CONDITION: Wax is in fair condition having lost original luster and coloring. 1-1021 JL234 (200-300)

20” ENGLISH WAX BABY SIGNED “LUCY PECK”. A charming infant with blonde inset hair, blue glass eyes, and cloth body with wax lower limbs. She is wearing a fancy cotton christening outfit and matching bonnet. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good. There is some scuffing to wax, especially noticeable on arms. 1-1006 JL242 (300-400)

FINE FRENCH LAMBERT AUTOMATON OF GIRL WITH MIRROR AND POWDER PUFF. A closed-mouth Tete Jumeau #5 with blue paperweight eyes and bisque lower arms standing at a dressing table with mirror. When activated, the doll turns her head from left to right, occasionally lowering her head and powdering her nose. She then turns to the left to glimpse at herself in the mirror held in her left hand. SIZE: 9” x 12-1/2” x 18”. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good. Appears to be re-dressed many years ago. Clothing in somewhat fragile condition now. Some trim missing from base. Head and hands appear to be free of damage to bisque. Two tunes play when activated. 1-991 JL12 (3,500-4,500)

CHARMING AUTOMATON OF A FRENCH GIRL AND HER MARIONETTE. When activated, the girl raises her right hand to smell her handkerchief, nods her head and alternately raises her left hand to pick up the all-bisque “Punch”-type marionette sitting in front to her. Bisque head with closed mouth and blue paperweight eyes is marked “M1”. Some peppering on face of young girl. SIZE: 4-1/2” x 8” x 16”. CONDITION: Base and “Punch”-type figure appear to be all-original but girl’s dress and wig have been replaced. Some minor adjustments needed to improve movement of unit. 1-998 JL15 (2,000-2,500)

TETE JUMEAU AUTOMATON. An open-mouth Tete Jumeau #2 with brown paperweight eyes. When activated the girl raises her right hand to smell her flowers while her head nods and left arm moves. SIZE: 6” x 6” x 16”. CONDITION: Clothing and wig are older replacements, rub to end of nose. Various movements are currently inoperative. 1-996 JL18 (1,400-1,800)

FRENCH AUTOMATON “MOZART”. Paper label attached to bottom stating “SERENADE DE SCHUBERT” and “MENUET DE MOZART”. Automaton has drawer that, when pulled open activates the mechanism. The bisque-head pianist proceeds to move his hands across the keys while raising and lowering his head and turning side to side. This charming automaton is of a more recent vintage. Contained in the drawer is a newspaper clipping from 1967 with a young lady holding this particular piece; her collection was being auctioned at Butterfield and Butterfield in August of 1967. FRENCH AUTOMATON LADY PLAYING HARP. German closed mouth head marked “GK” in an elaborate costume seated playing a harp. Separate wind up for action and music. When activated, her head turns form left to right and her hands strum the chords on the harp. SIZE: 11-1/2” x 7-1/2” x 17”. MODERN AUTOMATION. This features a bisque-headed girl atop a base. When wound, her head turns from right to left while raising her arms and music plays. SIZE: 5” x 5” x 16”. 30” F.G. GESLAND BEBE. Doll has a marked body and rear of head “F.G.” is in scroll with number “11” under scroll. This young lady, on a marked Gesland body (composition parts have been repainted) has hazel eyes, pale bisque, a newer pale blue frock with tatted lace, a long light brown human hair wig and closed mouth with molded tongue. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good with the exception of composition body parts, which have been repainted. RARE 24” HALOPEAU BEBE. A beautiful example of a rare French Bebe. The doll has had restoration to head. Marked on rear of head “5 H” and is on a jointed, straight-wristed composition body. The doll has threaded blue paperweight eyes and is wearing an antique white cotton dress. CONDITION: Bisque restoration appears to be from top of eyelids up into the forehead and extending over to both ears. The facial features from the lower eyelids down are intact. 22” TETE JUMEAU #9. A stunning “Tete” with blue paperweight eyes on a straight wristed eight ball-jointed composition body. The doll has damage to forehead, but these are basically hidden when wig is in place. She is wearing a newer French-style dress with French human hair wig. CONDITION: Forehead appears to have two to three pieces glued back in, crack extending into doll’s right eyebrow. 21” FRENCH BISQUE MAN. An interesting character with strong facial molding with sandy blonde hair on a fully jointed wood and composition French body. 24” FRENCH BISQUE CHARACTER LADY. An interesting doll depicting a lady with strong facial features and brown paperweight eyes. She is on a carved wood jointed lady body. 17” GERMAN PARIAN WITH MOLDED HAIR. She has wonderful detail to her hair with ringlets, a braid, and a molded black bow. 22” GERMAN BISQUE LIMBACH GIRL IS MARKED WITH CLOVER ON THE BACK OF HEAD AND A “12”. This beautiful German girl with blue paperweight eyes resembles a French bébé. She has open mouth with two square-cut teeth. On a nice early straight wristed fully jointed composition body. Her human hair wig is a newer replacement and her new dress and hat are made in the French manner. She wears antique brown oilcloth shoes and white cotton underwear. 25” GERMAN BISQUE B.M. 341 TODDLER. Rare large size toddler with ”Mama” type toddler body. Dressed in green and white checked cotton dress with white gauze pinafore and antique toddler shoes. She has a blonde human hair wig and poke style green bonnet. CONDITION: Left pinkie is replaced, arms have crazing and hands are peeling. Lower legs are also crazed. 26” KESTNER TURNED SHOULDER HEAD. Wonderful early child with brown sleep eyes and pale bisque. She is on a cloth body with bisque lower arms and wears an early child’s peach wool dress trimmed with blue soutache braid, and very early children’s boots with wooden heels. 26” CLOSE MOUTH FRENCH BEBE. Possibly by E.D., this doll has had major restoration but would still be good for a collector or someone who would like to restore this Bebe. 11-1/2” GERMAN BROWN BISQUE SIMON AND HALBIG 739 CHILD. A very sweet size in this hard to find S&H child. She has lovely brown complexion, original chocolate brown fully jointed composition body. She has brown set eyes and open mouth with four teeth. She is newly dressed in blue and white cotton with new shoes, but still retains her original black mohair wig, which has never been removed. 18” GERMAN BISQUE ABG TURNED SHOULDER HEAD MARKED WITH AN “8”. This bisque child has a winsome look with a slightly turned head and crooked smile. She has brown sleep eyes and open mouth with teeth. 20” FRENCH BISQUE CHARACTER BOY MARKED A-7. Possibly Lanternier. He has blue paperweight eyes and open/close mouth with two teeth and molded tongue. 24” GERMAN CHINA LADY WITH BROWN EYES. 1860’s Common hair china. She has black hair with fine painting detail and beautiful complexion. She is on cloth body with china limbs. 22” ENGLISH PINK TINT CHINA LADY. A beautiful china depicting a younger lady with antique mohair wig and long slender arms. Body is cloth with china limbs, and she wears a newer peach velvet two-piece costume. CONDITION: Light speckling to face, deep pit center of forehead under the wig. TWO GERMAN CHINA DOLLS. 1) 21” blond molded hair common china on a cloth body with leather arms wearing a burgundy velvet two-piece dress with pocketbook wearing antique underwear and an elaborate floral and blue striped corset. Leather arms are in poor condition. There is some scuffing to her left cheek and speckling to nose and front of hair. 2) So-called Biedermeier type. His five-piece baby body has original pink finish and he is wearing a pink checked romper and sweater set. He has beautiful bisque and open mouth with two lower teeth.
