RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED MAHOGANY BOX SOFA.

Mid 19th century, probably English. Carved in the manner and theme of a noble court. The horizontal crestrail with carved guilloches and leaf tips centering rectangular overupholstered back flanked by stiles carved in deep relief with classical maidens posed on foliate corbels joined to reeded armrests ending in acanthus carved grips. The supports carved in high relief with seated and posed Jester and Bard figures. Centering rectangular overupholstered seat fitted with three additional seat cushions. The whole raised on eight straight legs. SIZE: 44″ h of back. Overall l 84″. 16″ h of seat. 33″ approx overall d. CONDITION: Settee has been recovered in muslin. Frame is structurally tight. Exposed carved surfaces professionally cleaned and repolished with rich dark brown color. Normal and expected in use wear. No major damage or restoration noted.
